When looking at photos of cities in Georgia like Tbilisi, I get a European feeling, I have always imagined Georgia and Armenia to be a bit like the rest of Eastern Europe. And Christianity is not only a religion, it is also a culture and Georgia and Armenia shares a Christian culture with Europe, both being very old ancient Christian countries.

Azerbaijan though is Muslim and seems to be more like Turkey, and even speaks a Turkic language that is mutually intelligible with Turkish. And like Turkey, Azerbaijan is a more secular Muslim country.

Magnus, Azerbaijan used to belong to Iran. Later its Northern part went to Russia, the Southern part is still in Iran. Azeri language is the second most common language in Iran, so their culture is probably more Iranian than Turkish I'd say.
As for Georgia - it comes across as the remnant of something more ancient than what we know as * Europe*; at least it was my impression of Tbilissi. In some ways Georgia reminds me of Southern Italy/Greece, in some ways it doesn't. However Christian religion of course sets both Georgia and Armenia apart from the Middle East countries and makes integration of both Georgians and Armenians into European cultures an easy thing, except for may be that "women emansipation" issue - there they are more Chrisitian Orthodox than most of European cultures.

No, you look at the map. The Turkey/Syria border isn't even a small one. Cyprus isn't in any way closer to Syria. There's more to Turkey than Istanbul.

Turkey is more european than pretty much all of Eastern European countries. Most of the eastern european countries, especially those that regained power from the Soviet Union in 1991, are poor and suffer corruption at levels that some african countries can't even match. you can tell exactly how bad it is just by visiting the country. poor infrastructure, unmaintained roads with potholes, litter, vandalised buildings everywhere, military presence everywhere you go . you'd think you're in Iraq. Whereas in Turkey (mainly the western half of turkey) at times you'd think you're in Italy, other times you'd think you're in Greece.

I agree with you on several points.

I am absolutely shocked by your grasping at straws.
