Intelligence agents are not military. Intelligence agents are specially trained people. 2 clowns who walk together in front of cameras are not agents. They are fools (perhaps hired killers, but not professionals).

Only for the population. Industrial facilities experiencing a shortage of water.

Corruption also feels good there.

And who is the creator of this? That's right, the Russian general, the hero of Russo-Japanese and First World Wars. He knew how to fight.

And, btw, USSR fulfilled its tasks. The border was moved from Leningrad. You may think that you won, but it is not.

Russias problems in that war were mainly ones of training and command and control. You don't take green soldiers from places like the Ukraine and expect them to know how to fight in such an environment against people who are experienced in it and knew the terrain like the Finns.

A large part of those casualties were due to soldiers not knowing how to properly prepare for battle in such an extreme environment. Many only lightly wounded men froze to death, lost in an alien landscape in the arctic night. Those casualties included frostbite cases also. The Russians were arrogant too. They thought it would be a walk in the park. The preparations were inadequate in all respects.

Tsouras goes into winter fighting in this book.

A wound that even mildly incapacitated a soldier could very quickly lead to his death in a winter environment if help is not there quickly.

If you study the war you will find that Russian commanders REALIZED their errors and shipped in Siberian troops and then things changed.

Which is why Stalin insisted his fake people's republic (sound familiar?) was the only legitimate government to negotiate with? Only after losing a few hundred thousand soldiers and getting booted from the League of Nations did he admit that maybe the legal head of Finland could represent it. Finland was one of 6 nations invaded in 1939 by the USSR while Stalin shipped materials to Hitler to finish off the capitalist West.

Yes, they were not ready for that moment.

I think there was a little hubris mixed in also. Did they think they even had to prepare better?

The same attitude permeated a lot of thinking in the German high command. "Kick in the door and the whole rotten structure will collapse". We know how that turned out.

Video of the Red Airforce greasing the final pockets of resistance on Cape Chernoses, the most western portion of land on the Crimea. It was a bloodbath for the Germans. The Russians were taking no prisoners, they were after the Germans who they considered responsible for the atrocities in the Rostov area and the Tatars Hiwis who fled here with the Nazis. A few made it to Romania which lost several ships trying to evacuate the soldiers. This is just weeks after the Red Air Force wiped out the German Luftwaffe in the southern Ukraine. There were a lot of American P-38 Aircobras in that battle. The Russians loved them and called them 'Little Shavers" because they were so manueverable at medium and low altitudes.
