Then they issue warnings that no Russians should visit here, as they are victims to racist violence (not a single incident has been reported), and when we strenghten our defence cooperation with Sweden, the Russians claim this is a threat to Russia and "Finland has been taken over by US agents". The Russian, especially St. Pete and Moscow media throw out this anti-Finnish propaganda on a daily basis depicting us as a hostile nation. And what have we done? Nothing. Absolutely nothing.

You don't live here, you don't know what we've suffered, you don't know how it is to live as a neighbour of Russia. The truth is, we don't provocate. You have some 70's nostalgic senile view of Russia and the Soviet Union, as you have always been 2000 kilometres from them. We have not. They are our neighbour. And damn have we suffered. Yes we have.
Seems like "Finlandization" still goes on pretty strong today doesn't it?

In some veteral politicians, I won't deny it. There's scents of it still out there. But in the younger generation, not much at all. Still, the truth is that we have a 1000 mile border with Russia, always have had, and we have only scratched the surface of the economic opportunities there. 'Realpolitik' will always follow us no matter what.

It's easy to keep a hard-line policy when you're UK, France, NL, UK, UK or UK, or have been mutilated by the Soviet Union, like Estonia or Poland. For us it's very much harder, especially when we have some 1.2 million Russian tourists here every year. Or in fact it's like 2 million these days. And they're giving us moneeeeeeyyyy!

Big deal? Ireland gets a million American visitors and they don't influence policy there.

You totally missed his point. Read what Finlandization is, then come back to us. Comparing Finland to Ireland is like comparing apples to light bulbs

I honestly don't remember the last time I heard something bad about Finland. Are you sure it is really on daily basis?

If there is something negative showing it is usually about Washington or the EU in general.

Maybe you are a little (or a lot!) paranoid )))

I also do not remember when the Russian news contained negative information about Finland. But the Finns are so severe that they come up with Russian news themselves, and then terrified by it.

Oh poor you.
The next time I am in Russia, I'll advise Russians to not to give you money.
In fact I'll make it a personal crusade.
May be it'll fix the problem and pacify your fears.
We'll see how it goes.

P.S. I need to look up what "Finlandization" is.
