To my palate, filtered (North American) coffee sucks, unless the beans are ground fresh and filtered overnight through cloth (my experience in South America). Instant coffee is slightly less horrible, and a Cuban-American company based in Miami makes instant espresso, acceptable.

Yes, Italian espresso is great, especially when sort of creamy and bitter-sweet, but sometimes when left in the machine too long it tastes like burnt sour.

The first time I had ground coffee sunk directly at the bottom of the cup was in Bratislava, then I learned how to make it in Greece. Some people call it Turkish coffee, I suppose, but I don't want to start an argument. Anyway, my favorite style of coffee by far, but it just takes so long to make it.

As for measure, 5 ounces, demitasse or lungo, and 6-8 ounces, respectively.

Turkish coffee is the nectar of the gods, no cream needed.

I have no idea how much coffee I like to drink, but that's usually more than the regular Italian expresso found in bars in Italy which is tiny.

The best coffee maker is that:

I respect your opinion because i think Austrian coffee is close or at the same level to Italian one (let's not forget that Illy and Hausbrandt brands of coffee, a couple of the major Italian producers, we born when Trieste was ruled by Austria ). Both Austrian, Turkish and Iberian coffees could battle it out with our espressos. They are different but they all have their qualities. What saddens me is seeing Starbucks pretending to offer an Italian bar like experience when it couldn't be more different and they are only my country's name to promote a product that's completely different from ours.

Another thing which saddens is hearing someone claim that dishwater coffee (what they call American coffee ) is better than any of the coffee produced in the aforementioned countries

French make the best coffee, Italian coffee is overrated (just like their cars, music and women)- too bitter.
