No, that's not the right mindset.

The whole elite should think about why this happens, why many people are unhappy with the status quo, listen to people carefully (before throwing lables) and try to improve things such as globalization, immigration, the income-gap etc, etc.

Le Pen won 35%, far higher than the less than 20% her father did 15 years ago. It is a strong voice people should listen to, instead of just being habitually dismissive as if those people are just stupid and backwards.

not so different with Clinton. The system didn't provide a viable candidiate, so don't blame voters.

You know people keep saying this, but the reality is that lots of people (I would even say most) will never change their mind, they wouldn't even try to listen.

They are partially to blame but not entirely we have a huge population of stupid uninformed people.
