It is a very good thing that the Dutch government does not react as stupid and weak as the Germans. They clearly stated that those kind of propaganda is not tolerated in a free an liberal country, whereas Germany is still failing to strongly react towards that kind of childish and stupid behaviour of the Erdogan government and my province of Germany even wants to give the right for elections to non-EU immigrants so that they can found their Turkish radical parties. How can people hate their own country as much as the Germans?

I think the Dutch government is reacting very will to that threat for public security and democracy. We do not need that the dictators islamistic propaganda in Europe. If people do not accept that, they are free to leave towards Turkey. It is time to kick Turkey out of the NATO, but as fare as I know there is no legal option forseen for that case?

Hup Holland

Well, I am not sure if that is a good thing. For overall economic matters, Rutte seems to be quite good, and I do not like the idea of leaving the EU. The Netherlands has always been strong by trade, creativity and liberal ideas.

Can it really be that Merkels wrong decisions and the overall lacking strength of the EU and especially the Germans lead to the collapse of the EU?

Or will it just be that kind of socialist, stupid "colorful and liberal, pro immigration and anti economic strength" countries remain, while UK, NL and other contributors leave?

I do not want to queue for showing my passport every time I go to NL, lol.

It's really sad but the Dutch government walked straight into Erdogans trap. Now exactly happens what Erdogan wished for. Erdogan and his henchmen do not really want to address the Turks that live abroad. Their number and especially their voter turnout is far too low to make a noteworthy impact on the Turkish referendum. But this escalation will help them to gain more votes for the referendum among Turks in Turkey. Unfortunately the Dutch have also an election next wednesday.
Actually the Dutch government acted very stupidly, but understandable, considering their elections in a few days.

Normally I would wish we would ban all these Turkish politicians from travelling to Europe to keep them off spreading their extremism here. I even wish we would deport all those Turks in Germany that feel more attracted by Turkey than by Germany. The EU should punish Turkey where ever it's possible. Travel restrictions, trade embargo, punish European companies that do business in Turkey. We should demonstrate that we don't accept their behavior. But it would be better if we would sanction them after the referendum.

The problem is not that the "others" hate Germany, the problem is that YOU hates Germany as it is. It's exactly the same with the AFD and other right-wing extremists or the Trump supporters in the U.S. All these people claim that the "others" are the ones that hate Germany respectively the U.S. But in reality these people are the ones that hate other people, just because of their different views. These people are overchallenged to understand complex coherences. The world has become to complicated for these uneducated people.

Erdogan is clearly a far greater threat to European security than Donald Trump but we don't see the trendy left out demonstrating about it.

If the EU collapse then because of too many uneducated people have voted for extremist parties. It doesn't seem advisable to do what stupid people consider necessary. I wouldn't heed to what the most stupid people demand.

But I would wish our politicians would put one's foot down (auf den Tisch hauen). They should act in a stronger way. It's understandable that many or most people consider Merkels behavior as very weak.
