When I am sore from working out hard, is it beneficial or detrimental to stretch? Any tips to alleviate some of the soreness? (I don't want to take pain reliever pills). Probably sitting at this computer is the last thing I should be doing...

I really loooove using a foam roller. Ahh, hurts so good, but when done, I feel like a champ.

Is there a way to use one of those for inner thighs? Mine are killin' me today after Wednesday's session on the adductor machine and Thursday's extra challenging pilates class.

Well - there is! You kind of lay on it on your stomach with the roller lengthwise going down your stomach - then roll each thigh.

Stretch post-workout when you're warm. Or take a bath with Epsom salts, then pop some ibuprofen.

In addition to general stretches post workout, I like self myofascial release with either a foam roller or a tennis ball. I really like the people on this website, and am even meeting them next month for an on site workshop. I like the individual attention/ oversight > www.smr.networkfitness.com They have instruction, written & video for everything, including inner thigh! I LOVE the lat work.

Oh, the other thing I do, mainly after leg day is an ice cold shower for about 7 minutes. Yes, I time it. The shower is my modification of the infamous ice bath.

If I wind up with a strain or other injury, I see my personal trainer who does NKT (neuro kinetic therapy), totally amazing. Treat the source, not the symptom. Neurokinetic Therapy

Love my foam roller too! I have also used a rolling pin and tennis ball to get to hard-to-reach areas. Afterwards, a nice bath in epsom salts helps me too. I also like to use homeopathic Arnica, either orally or in the cream form to rub into sore muscles.

The best thing for soreness other than stretching/rolling? Hydration and adequate caloric intake. Labrada makes something called Sorenzyme but I haven't tried it.

An epsom salt bath is good for sore muscles.

stretching when sore? It's the modern equivalent of dark ages self-flagellation. It won't help you recover nor will it improve your standing with God.
