Eastern European women eat better, are toned and therefore naturally slim. Calling another "underweight" in the USA is but an excuse for one's own fat ass. What would be the waist measurements of a women who is 5'4" and 140 lbs? Is a muffin top or dunlap allowed? What if the thighs are as big around as the waist?
I have a hard time wrapping my head around "underweight".
I agree the American diet is crap mostly made up of GMO's and pump full of hormones, chemicals and antibiotics!.... Plus toss in fast foods, over processed and add in the couch potato lifestyle, need I go on? Basically you have a $#@t storm in the making! ...
Oh wow, this thread is...interesting. I'm just shy of 5'6 and probably somewhere between 140-150...but I'm all muscle and with a lower body fat. I am never larger than a 6 (I'm currently a loose 4, comfortable 2) or 27 in waist/designer sizes.
My weight often surprises people and I currently have people telling me not to lose anymore, because I'm close to too thin.
I am 5'11 and weigh 135 lbs. If I go to 140, my belly sticks out in an non pretty way. My clothes are size 6-8.
i once made these overweight excuses threads into a drinking game:
one shot for each time they mention "thyroid"
one shot for each time they mention "fat & fit"(LOL wut?)
I had to laugh at that. I never thought the weight gain I had was from my thyroid. I figured it was from getting older and some of the medications I take.
So I just sucked up ate very little and worked out every day. My husband would make jokes about me living on a lettuce leaf a day. 5'5 and went from 140 back to 125.
I then found out I had an under active thyroid.

I don't know how widespread the thyroid issue is, but it's real for those it affects.
The comments about BMI were laughable too. It's a worthless metric. Height/weight. That's it. It doesn't control for bone density, muscle mass or any other physical factors. I know some people swear it's a valid metric. I question the intelligence of such people.
Everyone's body frame is different.. some women with your height and weight would probably look too skinny...maybe you have a smaller frame?
I'm 5'2" , 106 pounds and start feeling fat if I get above 110 pounds, so I know the struggle..haha.
So true! I'm 5'3 1/2 115 size 4 and small boned myself... The most I ever weighed is during my pregs 125- 130 with the for kids...There just no place for extra weight to go but out...

Wow, you didn't gain much weight at all during pregnancy!
Americans have never eaten healthy. They've always eaten terribly. Throughout our history we've had a high fat, high salt diet. My dad used to drink milk from the cow every morning and my grandmother made the family huge flapjack breakfasts. They were all skinny.
What's changed is that sugar and corn syrup infuses pretty much all of our food like crack. Sugar is highly addictive and the complex carbohydrates quickly turn to fat. BUT we could still be relatively decent shape if we did not have...
Sedentary lifestyles. That is the overwhelming reason we are fat. We eat just as much as we always did but now laced with sugar, AND we are sitting all day, every day.
It's funny, I was recently watching some "Soul Train" clips from the late 80's. The women (probably in their early 20's) look absolutely anorexic compared to the women of that age today. I myself weighed 25 lbs. less than I do now, and I still look fairly thin, so I too probably looked anorexic back then.
