Absolutely. While I can't compare to many here, and nobody could mistake me for an athlete, I am in far better shape than I have ever been. Over the last two years I have lost 63 pounds. I eat healthier and I exercise more. My favorite hikes are getting easier. I've taken up new physical hobbies (kayaking and snowshoeing) and this past year I have started jogging/running. A year ago I couldn't and didn't want to run. This past weekend, I ran my second 5K, in the cold (5 degree wind chill) and snow. I'm planning to run another 5K next month. I'm not very fast but I don't care about time, I'm just happy to be doing it. I'm excited to get outside and be active this summer.
I wanted to bring this thread back because some members liked it when I made it and it seems that we have some new blood here and I want to see what they think. Hopefully it will get some new replies.
I am kinda the opposite of what your title asks .. I have always been in good shape up until this year .. I`m turning 60 in a few months and I feel it ..old age has caught me ....
Right now, there is no question that I am in the best shape of my life. I am training for a marathon, I'm eating super healthy, basically the stars are aligned for me right now
I hope to keep it up for awhile, but for now, I'm just going to be happy with where I'm at
I had my best shape when I was around 18, because I was playing sports EVERY single day, my parents are sports nuts. And my mom cooked very healthy, hardly any processed food on our table. But back then I didn't know that my body looks awesome, super skinny with toning. I was just an insecure teenager in baggy clothes and didn't play it right.
Now I consciously work hard at the gym and try to save time by mostly doing what shows results - hardly any cardio but lots of weights. I work full time and work on my masters, I don't have the time to do more for another 2 years.
So people see me as slim and athletic but I am 38, so age is certainly showing - my body is changing and there isn't much I can do.
Yes, but I'm not where I'd like to be yet. When I was in school I could slack off all spring and summer, and then bounce back in no time for field hockey season. Now it's so much harder; after having kids and fighting against middle-age gravity, it takes more effort and consistency in all areas. Trying to reach MILF status is hard work, damn it!
When I was 16, I took dance classes-ballet, tap, & jazz. I was also on the soccer team (was the first girl to play soccer for my high school) and then I joined the JV cheerleading squad. The summer when I was 17. I started the day with a ballet class-which was 2 hours, 5 days a week. It was a professional summer workshop-everyone with the exception of me was a professional dancer. I was totally out of my element but I did learn a lot. After I got home from class, I hit the pool where I stayed until it closed-only went home for meals. However, even though I was getting quite the workout-either in ballet/or other dance class, sports or at the pool, I was still smoking about a pack a day. I have quit but totally out of shape today.
