With the fact that my daily commute is around 3-4 hours per day, this scenario sometimes happens to me.

I'm 5'10 and 170 lbs and I'm trying to gain mass muscle.

Now this doesn't happen to me often. Just sometimes there aren't many food options and I have to choose between eating something fattening or not eating at all. I know some will say cook or bring snacks with me. And those are good options but like I said, sometimes you're in a jam and you're out of snacks or whatever.

Pick between these 2.

There is no excuse why you couldn't drink mineral water with ultra fine oats and dehydrated fruit / vegetable powder.

However, if I had to pick I'd go for the cake.

Depends on what kind of cake it is.

Good advice. The milk (and milkfat) will help to sustain and keep sugar level a little more even.

I'm not a big cake person and being hungry is good for me when I've gotten a little tight in the blue jeans.

This is an absolute NO BRAINER - you just wait the 1.5 hours to get something healthy to eat. Only a nimrod would give in to eating a piece of cake when they KNOW they are trying to lose weight. This is so totally something one of my fat friends would do, then try to rationalize it somehow as if they would feel like they would just die if they didnt eat it. Like "Oh, I just could do the 1.5 hour commute to eat correctly so I just HAD to eat that cake otherwise I would just die".

1.5 hours of not eating isn't going to send anyone to the emergency room. If you have at least 1lb of fat on your body, you have 3500 extra calories to survive on for the next 90 mins.

Just say you want to eat that sweet piece of cake and we will all understand, Lol.

As much as I would love to eat a piece of cake at any given moment.... the phrase "go hungry for 1.5 hours" just doesn't sit right with me. Are you talking waiting 1.5 hours past your usual "feeding time" or do you struggle to go more than an hour and a half without food?

your poll is funny. not the kind that makes me laugh, though.

it sounds like someone's a carb-addict that struggles over an extra 1.5 hours of fasting. What's with western society and their obsession with eating all the time?

Fasting allows the body to heal itself and prolongs life.

Some days i'll only have one meal. granted i'm not expending as much energy as you (it's not my thing), my stomach isn't growling and telling me to feed it throughout the day.

I'd say put a third option in there and that would be to drink some water.

The body's many cries for water. Many of which are ignored.

Keep protein bars in your car for emergencies like this. It would be very unhealthy to eat cake on an empty stomach.

Can't believe that no one has suggested that "if you are in a jam and you are VERY hungry"....

...wait for it...

...just eat the jam!
