I notice the effects of a caffeine tablet within a minute. There is research available on how different people metabolize caffeine. The effects are different for everyone.
Why would you, "always take protein shake before and after such activity?" It makes no sense to drink a protein shake before you exercise. I would not be able to get in a run if I drank a protein shake first. It is counter-productive.
I think 1 minute must be the power of suggestion - or are you mistaking the feeling of rubbing some other "amphetamine-like" substance on your gums?
for a while i would take a caffeine pill every morning. i cant say that i ever really noticed it. i dropped it and just have a cup of coffee most mornings. more for "relaxation" than anything. not that its so relaxing knocking back my coffee while forcing my kids to eat breakfast and making their lunch (while my wife is yelling at the kids to eat their breakfast).
i always found energy drinks to be silly because you are paying $2+ for the same active ingredient as a caffeine pill that costs more like 5 cents a pop.
oh and it sounds like you are drinking too much protein. though im not really sure what your goals are.
4 miles on a rest day seems kind of ocd. How many miles on a run day?
What kind of work do you do for that many hours of cardio?
And if you're trying to reduce belly fat, aren't protein drinks a lot of calories for before AND after?
Have you zipped off on a caffeine buzz?

i dont do any cardio. i assumed by rest day he meant a non-lifting day but i guess that could be my zero cardio thought process. im not sure why one would take a protein drink at all with cardio unless they are focused on gaining weight.
Pill costs a nickel. Stick of caffeine gum costs a quarter. Expresso?
I enjoy a cup of coffee in the morning. But if I just need a little caffeine later in the day, there are more efficient ways to get it done.
I actually think most people don't know that caffeine pills exist. Most people know of fat burners, but whenever I talk to people about caffeine pills I get a "They make those?" reaction.
I agree, quickest/easiest/cheapest way to ingest 200mg of caffeine. What I like about the pills is that you can also chop them up into halves if you only need a 100mg boost for an hour or two.

i agree, most people arent aware of the pills and how cheap they are.
you ever use the powder? once i got the idea that i would buy the powder and use it in my own custom protein drink mix. man it tastes nasty. its amazing that the stuff is in drinks and seems to not impact taste because its gross. i still finished it, i paid for it.
Another cheap and easy way to get a little caffeine boost fast: Costco has private label Energy Shots for less than $1/shot as I recall. Plus they go on sale once or twice/year.
I keep some in my cars since I find long drives to be a tad tiring at times. If anything less than 100% I just take a sip and I'm good for another several hours. Nothing worse than a tired driver.
A bigger boost can be gained by snorting Vivarin in conjunction with a mouthful of those sweet yellow gems. LOL
