Wanted to ask this...I had a guy tell me that if you eat a candy bar before you run it will give you a little pep....is there any truth to this?

sugar rush. Im thinking the guy who told you may not be an avid fitness enthusiast because eating a candybar isnt something they would do.

I wouldnt do it. I'd have a 1/2 cup or a full cup of black coffee instead. The caffiene would give you a bit of a boost, but you need to do it right before your run. I almost always run first thing in the morning on an empty stomach. I always have this coffee right before the run. Works for me.

All that sugar that is in the candy bar is not good for you.

The guy that told me that says he usually stays away from eating candy bars but does so before a run.

I'm with Lao. On run days, I have a cup of coffee (6 oz.) about fifteen or so minutes before I head out. That works much better for me than a candy bar.

Thanks for the info.

Does that cup of coffee always help? I'm currently running 3 miles every other day, but feel sometimes I need some pep to help me make it thru.

For me, yes. I'm not a big coffee drinker, but on run days, I make sure to have a cup.

It definitely helps me. Try it one day without it, then the next day, have that black cup of coffee and see if you notice a difference.

A candy bar before a run would make me puke.

It's not so much the sugar, but the fat. Just sits too "heavy" in the stomach.

I'm with the others: a cup of coffee and if I'm doing a longer run and need the sugar/calories a banana.

As a teen I would run ten miles every morning. I would drink about 16 oz of Koolaid before. I was in great shape.
I think so long as you finish the workout before the crash your ok.

Yes, but it's false energy that will drop you like a rock when it runs out. It's better to eat some fruit (real fruit not a fruit flavored something!) to fuel your body.
