I have had 1 1/2 hours of electrolysis done on my face (chin area). Those of you who know about this sort of thing know that's not a lot of work done, LOL. It was VERY painful, but I endured it (1 session was for an hour). I am wondering if I would really benefit from laser hair removal. My natural hair color is blonde, but as I've gotten older it's turned sandy blonde. My facial hair isn't real dark, but it is dark. Any opinions on electrolysis versus laser hair removal? I'm wanting to do this for "presentation" purposes.

Huh? You completely lost me in your third sentence, and no, it does not depend on hormones. Electrolysis "cooks" the hair follicles, thus heating up the nerves surrounding that hair follice (which is why it is so painful). Laser gets rid of the hair follicles in some other manner, but all I have heard is that it's semi-permanent.
It's my understanding that it won't work on light hair and electrolysis is your best bet. I just started some laser hair removal but my hair is dark. My sister wanted to get some done but her hair is dark blonde. They said it wouldnt work for her.
My dermatologist gave me a few samples of Vaniqa (facial hair removal cream). It thins the hair over time and in about 4-8 weeks, the hair is gone. I've never used it myself, I had no need for it but if you're comfortable with using a chemical to get rid of facial hair, then maybe you can try it.

I used this when it first came out - but no luck for me. I have also tried laser (all different types) much to the pain of my wallet. NONE of them have worked - and to be honest - and I know this makes no sense - it has made a bad situation worse. That is why I question whether there is something in what the other poster says about it being a hormone issue. I am suppose to be the perfect candidate - fair skin with dark, coarse growth. But none of the above worked.
From what others of you have said - I am wondering if electrolyis might be something I should try.
cokatie- Do you know what kind of laser was used? Also did a nurse or dermatologist do the procedure for you? I did a lot of research on laser removal before I tried it and the results can really vary according to how well trained and versed the person doing it is. Also different lasers are more effective on dif types of hair / coloring. Each time you go in you should have 15-20% reduction in hair, you have to go in for about 5 treatments per area as it will only be effective when the follicle is in a specific growth cycle. These treatments need to be 4-5 weeks apart. Anyway, good luck, I've heard electrolysis can be effective... its just a lot more painful and time consuming as they have to do each follicle separately.
I tried to laser off my facial hair but it did not work. The hair was just too fine to begin with, I dunno why I bothered to waste my money because in retrospect I didn't really need it. Another negative side effect is that the laser light gets transmitted through your skull, such that you get a green flash in your retinas. I don't know if that is damaging or not, but it is surely alarming. I would personally not get lasered anywhere near your eyes or sinuses (since the light transmits through the sinuses). They put these glasses over your eyes, but there is no way to cover your retinas from behind.
