I'm torn between these two small evening bags. Ive been dying for a small leather purse to go out, thought was going to get 1st link ut incidentally stumbeled upon this coach for just $20 more. I can't decide which looks better and is a better buy? Whichever I get will be in black. Just wanted to do q quick poll and get some opinions here. Thanks!
I like coach and the one you picked is a boutique bag which usually have very nice leather.
I have never heard of the other one which means I would only buy it if I could put hands on it to feel the leather. Too many leather purses have crappy leather.
To me, the Coach bag has a slightly more casual look, so I would gauge it on how dressy you typically dress when going out in the evening. Since you're looking for a leather evening bag to begin with, I get an idea that your evening look is not cocktail dressy style. And if you like labels, certainly Coach is the better known of the two. Of the two, I personally would go with the Farah bag, simply because my evening wear style is dressier.
I like the coach one. I disagree with the other poster about it looking more casual than the hobo. I thought the opposite.
I think the coach has a bit more panache. I also find Hobo leather a little stiff. The fit and finish is never as nice as coach. They tend to line with a thin cotton fabric. Hobos also go on sale for 50% at major department stores. I wouldn't pay full price for it.
I might be biased as I was thinking about the same coach bag. . But I have too many similar ones.
The coach Madison's tend to have nice leather and coach has an awesome warranty which always gives it bonus points for me. But in the same price neighborhood, you might also like the following.
I have the bigger version of this one and I love that you can switch the strap to make it a shoulder bag too. Or remove it for a clutch. Super versatile. The leather is nice. http://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B007A1YF5I?ca=B007A1YF5I

I think the Coach is the nicer bag, especially for going out. The hobo looks too casual imo and 12"x8" isn't really what I consider a small evening bag. As for Coach quality, my mom got me a leather Coach bag for Christmas and I've worn it every day since. It's a great bag - from the leather to the handles to the lining and the zippers. The quality is top notch and the leather is beautiful to the touch and the eye. I understand the quality issues were with the canvas logo bags that were all the rage a few years back. I have noticed Coach sales recently at Macy's and at Nordstrom's that were significant. So you might be able to get a better deal than buying it direct from Coach if you shop around.
Second one is looking smarter, you should buy this one.
