I'm thinking about getting artificial nails. I'm in my 40s and I notice my nails are starting to look terrible. They split down the middle, or peel off in layers.
I have no clue as to the differences between acrylic, solar or gel nails. Which would be more natural looking? I work in an office and use a keyboard most of the time, so I don't want those pointy nails, I'd like the square tip. Also, I would like to be able to switch from time to time between having a French manicure and a having natural looking polish on the entire nail, like beige or pink or maybe even clear. Would I be able to do that with artificial nails?
please dont do this , I did this for several years and finally got an infection because the girl did not sterilize her instruments properly and ended up losing a fingernail and it had been painful for a while ...it almost ruined my natural nail . Thank God for my good dr at the time and he noticed and got me on anti biotics really quickly . No no no one hundred times no ...please dont .
I'm sorry that happened to you; it sounds very painful. That's what I'm afraid of, ruining my natural nail. Maybe I can get something like a protective silk wrap.
Thanks for your help.
Try taking Biotin, make sure you're eating a healthy diet, and your nails will improve quickly. This is preferable to getting gels or acrylics, trust me.
I have naturally bad nails -- got them from Daddy. They are thin and flat and broad. Doesn't help I am a janitor and my nails get mistreated all the time. All the supplements and diet stuff does NOTHING for me, because mine aren't bad because I'm not taking care of myself.
The best thing I do for my nails is Barielle nail cream. The stuff lasts FOREVER, because you take a little dab and put a thin coat on your nails at night and in the morning and then rub it in, paying attention to your cuticles. Takes a few minutes. But as they grow out, the new growth is much healthier and stronger. For me -- my nails are able to take what life dishes out without splitting and tearing. As I said -- I have bad nails -- so they will never be thick and lustrous like Mom's.
Good news I got Daddy's wavy hair.... love that -- I made out on the genetics.
I will second the Biotin supplement. I started taking it for my hair which was suffering after I went on a diet and got great results with my hair and my nails. I can tell when I am off of the biotin within a couple of days my nails start peeling and my cuticles begin to get ragged.
Biotin, biotin, biotin! THIS STUFF WORKS. You could also take prenatal vitamins, but honestly the biotin will work fine. Be patient, it takes a couple of months for you to really tell the difference but when you do - wow.
