This has been a popular look in Bermuda for years. There, they use long socks rather than leave their legs exposed. I'm not certain most men elsewhere are comfortable with this much leg exposure unless they're in a casual, laid back environment.
If one is going to cover their legs anyway why the short pants?
That is what it reminds me of is the old short pants that boys wore until they were old enough to be considered "Young Men" and get their first pair of long pants.
I'm not a fan on the two models presented however, if they used different models who were standing up straight and had a more pleasant look on their face it could make the difference.
seriously, if "business casual" is the objective,, from the guys(my) perspective, its more about losing the tie, than able to wear shorts
I have seen some hybrid suit/shorts at gatherings, and it didn't look good at all
although,,, I have to say, id still rather see this hybrid style than the baggy jeans/gangster rapper look- looks pretty stupid on the white kids up here

Okay, Pharrell Williams makes good music, but I wouldn't call him a fashion icon.
The vest looks better than I'd imagine it looking, but I still can't see myself wearing that. Not at work anyway-- maybe, MAYBE to a lounge-type party if I were feeling edgy, but even then, probably not.
