although,,, I have to say, id still rather see this hybrid style than the baggy jeans/gangster rapper look- looks pretty stupid on the white kids up here
And why doesn't it look stupid on the "non-white" kids?
beach towns, LA, etc. More often than not it has been chino or linen shorts with a blazer versus an actual matching pair suit as they show here, but the overall look they are going for is nothing "new." The blazer and shorts combo looks better than the matching pair though.
It's not something I do but the right guys can pull it off.
If one is going to cover their legs anyway why the short pants?
That is what it reminds me of is the old short pants that boys wore until they were old enough to be considered "Young Men" and get their first pair of long pants.
I'm not a fan on the two models presented however, if they used different models who were standing up straight and had a more pleasant look on their face it could make the difference.
I'm no expert on men's clothing, but I suppose it must provide some relief, and may not be as heavy as regular trousers. It might even appear more polished with socks rather than without. Shorts with long socks were fairly standard back in the day, especially with Baseball and Football Uniforms, and perhaps Basketball jerseys to an extent. It kind've looks more appropriate for golf even, and golfers aren't as casually dressed as other sports—appearing, more "lax" than regular attire, yet, still esteemed more "professional," than mere slacks and a shirt.
