I have vanilla and lavender sprays that he likes, and so do I.

Sometimes I will find a perfume that I love and use it for a while. Then one day it will smell like onions or body odor when I use it. That happens to my husband too...the only cologne he's been able to use regularly without it starting to smell odd on him is Aramis, and neither of us is fond of that scent.

Recently I had the same problem with a shampoo...I used the same kind for six months and then noticed it was starting to make my head smell really bad. I stopped using it for a while (in case it was a problem with my scalp and not the shampoo) and the problem went away, then I tried it again and had the same problem.

The reason perfume/cologne smell bad is because now they are manufactured with chemicals instead of essential oils:

Interesting article Katie45 - I wish it would have told us which perfumers use real oils and which don't.

Makeup gets reformulated often too, which i find even more annoying.

Perfume should be banned in public places. If it smells bad to you, imagine how bad it smells to people who can't tolerate any of it? Your husbands are right. Stop forcing them to smell what is foul.

I agree. I hate going to an expensive restaurant and sitting next to someone who is ruining my experience with the stench of perfume/cologne.

BTW - olfactory sensitivity decreases with age.

I cant get over how some of us go to church and there will be one person who sits in the pew in front of me or to the side and have the most aromatic perfume on and I mean took a bath in it ,then my eyes start watering and my sinuses clogging and sometimes so bad I have to leave church and nothing will help except leaving . I wish someone would tell them "granny sweetheart ya just have a lil bit too much cologne on sugar "
