I keep my nails long, which is easy for me since they're naturally strong, and I constantly get compliments from women who aren't able to grow theirs long. My frustration, though, is with the appearance of them each time I wash my hair. They get shampoo residue underneath that adheres as a coating, and I'll try scraping underneath with a nail file, but it doesn't do a whole lot. I've tried cleaning underneath with white vinegar, hydrogen peroxide, just anything I can think of that might help, but nothing works truly well. What do the rest of you do to keep your nails looking perfect?
You know what:
Dip them into Clorox, full strength, you might have a nail fungus.
I actually use several different natural shampoos, and I alternate with each washing, but I seem to get the same result on my nails no matter which one I'm using, so it's an odd thing! Thanks for the idea of a nail brush. I don't know why I hadn't thought of trying that. My nails aren't yellow at all. In fact, I've been complimented on how white they are. It just bugs me when I see what I perceive to be this film under them.
This has nothing to do with shampoo or conditioner, you have a fungus under your nails
What that looks like to me is different thicknesses of nail (how they grow naturally) and the light going through looks different at different spots. I do have that sorta same thing, but after they're dry for a bit (15 min?) that color difference goes away. When you use a file to clean out underneath, does anything come out? I'll bet not. Your nails look very healthy to me with no bumps or ridges. I wish mine were that smooth.
I have long nails but don't have shampoo residue. I have an issue with shampoo not rinsing out of my hair but that is a water issue we are having. (Highly chlorinated.) I actually use my nails to test if the shampoo is out or not. I'm wondering maybe your issue COULD be a water issue, too. Or it could be a shampoo issue. It just sounds strange.
OP - your nails look fine to me but of course I can't see under your nails. When I want a natural look that makes the nails look healthy & white, I use Revlon's Nail Brightener. It is an almost clear polish that has a barely there shine with a hint of iridescence.
