I'm getting married in a week & want a pleasant, soft-scented perfume that's definitely not overpowering (for a female). Any suggestions please of anything.
I'd try a Jo Malone perfume, but there are so many, I'd have to really go & smell them to really see which ones I like & don't know if I have that kind of time. I know I like fruity/citrusy & some nature/outdoorsy/maybe grassy type scents. TIA!
Here's the scents I've liked in the past to give an idea of what I like.
- Calyx by the brand Clinique (previously by a discontinued cosmetics brand called Prescriptives)
Go to their counter if you have a mall or shop that sells Clarins and ask for some samples sprayed on a card. Then take the one you like and have them spray it on your wrist to smell.
These smell light and delightful. I am not a perfume wearer but I have used their treatent fragrances.
This is too personal. Whatever we like or whatever is trendy might not by your style and might not smell good on you. Even the same perfume doesn't smell the same on different people.
First find your style. Your style is your unique signature. People would associate that smell with you.
Styles are grouped like: spicy, woody, floral, herbs, citrus... heavy and light. Know the difference between perfume, eau de parfum, eau de toilette, eau de cologne and eau fraiche.
Perfumes have the highest fragrance concentration (between 20-40% oil concentration), this means that it is likely to be noticeable and last all day. Consequently, they are most expensive. Fragrances with less oils have more alcohol that evaporates quickly.
Eau fraiche is mostly water.
After you figure that out, it will be easier to find the right scent.
I would just go to perfumery or beauty store in a mall and ask for help. They have samples to smell.
Sweet Honesty is a soft scented perfume, and not over powering at all. It originally came out in the 70’s. I buy mine from Amazon, but Avon also sells it. I don’t know if you could get it in a week though.
At this late date I would opt for a scented lotion instead of an actual perfume. Scented lotions still give you a lovely scent but it is by no means overpowering. Stay away from anything by Channel. They happen to be my favorites - Mademoiselle, Coco, Noir - but a very light touch is necessary or else they are extremely overpowering.
Skip Jo Malone. They will drive you crazy with all of their choices. I have had a few gifts and I liked them but I was always wondering if I should be wearing one of their thousands of others scents
Your wedding day is not the time to experiment with fragrances. Don’t you have a favorite already? If not, maybe it’s not your thing. Why start now?
Just for the record, I like Angel, by Thierry Muglar.
Chanel Gabrielle would be a pretty wedding perfume, as would Cartier Basier Vole. Dior Pure Poison might be another one to try. But as mentioned before, fragrance is very personal so you should wear what makes you feel beautiful. Definitely go to the perfume counter and have some fun testing.
When I got married I bought a full set of Bath & Body Works Sweet Pea (I loved it at the time but now my favorite scent is A Thousand Wishes). I bathed in it, exfoliated with the shimmer gel, lotioned up with the shimmer, and spritzed on the shimmer in my hair before I dressed. I did not use a perfume because I did not want the oils to stain my dress.

Definitely agree with this. Your wedding isn't the time to be experimenting with anything, really: hair, makeup, skincare, etc. You don't want to end up not feeling or looking like yourself on a big day.
