Do you pay by credit card and simply add your tip there?
Do you pay cash and hand it to the front desk person and hope the full tip gets to the stylist?
Do you hand the stylist a cash tip before paying for the service by credit card or cash? If so , do you hand it to him/her at the chair or after he/she walks you to the front desk?
Just kinda curious how others handle it as I've done all of the above at one time or another.

Each hairdresser in the salon handles the payment herself with a cube thingy on her phone. I can add in a tip. I think it’s about 20% or about $7. There are no separate shampoo girls where I go.

I go to my wife's salon, that also does men's haircuts, and charges me $35. It's the owner, who we have known for over 30 years, and she won't accept a tip. I tried the first few times and then gave up, she suppresses the tip choice on the card payment screen.
All my services are at my hairdressers house. When I get a haircut, I hand her a $20 bill, which covers haircut and tip.
$20???? Holy crap. I got a dry haircut last month for 25 and I thought that was a rarity.
