Does anybody have some information as far as what volunteer fire departments exist around Fayetteville? I just moved here from the Northeast for work, and would like to get back into volunteering.

It looks like everything in Fayetteville seems to be career staff, so I'm trying to see what departments people would recommend nearby. I'd be driving from right south of the campus.

Appreciate the help in advance.

Wheeler Fire Dept, located west of Fayetteville has a volunteer fire department.

You may be able to find additional volunteer opportunities with Washington County fire departments.

As mentioned by 'OurGreatEscape' ... Wheeler Fire Department is a volunteer unit and others in the area would be Wedington Volunteer Fire Department on the west side and the Goshen Volunteer Fire Department on the east side.

There may be others in the immediate vicinity and from what I understand, the Fayetteville Fire Department relies extensively on the volunteer units surrounding the city so thank you for volunteering.

Welcome to Fayetteville! All I know is Wheeler and Wedington, maybe Elkins?

Thanks for volunteering, hope you can find something to your liking

Thank you everyone for some feedback... I'm a bit discouraged, to be honest, since the locations just seem to be so out of the way. It looked like Wedington would be the department that made the most sense, but the drive o the station is at least 20 minutes from my apartment, so it doesn't really make sense.

Farmington seems like my best option, but I'm not 100% if its volunteer or not. (Directory website says yes, but city website doesn't specify)

Thanks again, and wish me luck. Hopefully I can figure something out.

Wedington, Elkins, Farmington, Lincoln, Elm Springs, Hog Eye, Tontitown. Fayetteville, Springdale, Rogers, Bentonvlle, Siloam are full time. Most of the other towns are volunteer.

Thanks for the clarification, Jim. Looks like I'll have to find another alternative activity to working and drinking other than firefighting.

I may need to clarify my clarification, what I meant to say was Fayetteville, Springdale, Rogers, Bentonville, Siloam are paid full time.

Wedington, Elkins, Farmington, Lincoln, Elm Springs, Hog Eye, Tontitown are volunteer.

There's tons of places to volunteer in and around Fayetteville.

Unfortunately it is hard to be a volunteer firefighter while living in the larger cities of NWA. I'd either reexamine my choice of housing or, like you said, find a new hobby.

If that's the case for Farmington, that may end up being a viable option. Thanks again, folks!
