As part of my Southeast trip, I'm going to Florida in April/May . I choose to only hit pensacola because it's kind of on the way to NOLA in my trip coming from Alabama. I've never been there, so I really have no idea if this is a great stop?

Can someone tell me:

a) if this is a good place to stop
b) suggest specific things to do in the area

I'm in my early 30's --- and like fishing, outdoors, hiking, sports, eating healthy food, drinking unique beer, drinking wine, bars/music/jazz all great.

I'll have a rental car the entire time. And there's no time limit on my trip.

Thank you all.

First - I'd ask your question in the Pensacola forum. I'd also take a look here:

I am somewhat familiar with Pensacola - but my visits there were mostly business trips. I will note in general that the beaches in this part of Florida are beautiful - but basically "summer" beaches (the weather in April/May is great - but not "beach weather" in terms of swimming). Robyn

Honestly, unless you are interested in military history or just want to visit the beach, Pensacola is kind of lame.

But, since you're going to Gulf Shores, you can skip P-cola Beach.

Mobile is a superior city to visit. More interesting things to see, and better restaurants.

FSU: Not interested in military history.

You don't think it's worth stopping at the Beach? I was going to fish, not sure what else to do in Pcola.

Hitting Mobile, will see Battleship Memorial Park, Five Rivers, and not sure what else yet.

This is near Mobile:

Terrific gardens. April should still have some great flowers. May may be a little late (although it depends on how the spring shapes up). Robyn

P-cola Beach is not worth it if you are going to Gulf Shores anyway. I'd pick one or the other. They're very similar.

For fishing, you might consider fishing off the pier in Fairhope. Fairhope is a beautiful town and it's basically on the way from Gulf Shores to Mobile.
