"As far as Galveston goes, it is what it is. The beaches in Texas and Louisiana were not blessed with sugar white beaches, we have debris and silt from the Mississippi River that makes our beaches brown.

"I snapped this photo last fall while at the Seawall...

The water is clear and clean, but the sand is brown."

I stand corrected! I've seen it like this in postcards but, in all the days i've spent on Galveston, i've personally never seen it like this. I've been in Matagorda when the water was this clear though. And by the time you get to Corpus or South Padre it gets beautiful! One more thing I thought I might add. There is LOTS to do around Galveston. Really from Kemah to the island, there is always something fun to get into.

I stepped on a Portuguese Man-O-War in Corpus when I was a kid, and still have a mark on my foot.

Texas and Florida are both great states depending what you have going on.

Just stay off the beach if the Portuguese invade.

I lived in Homosassa, Florida on the west coast. I got a work job for several long months up at West Texas Big Bend National Park area working for a remote lodge hotel. The quality of life was very worth the time and enjoyed it very much. I get work jobs at resorts, hotels, and National Parks through Coolworks. when it comes to race florida is about as liberal as it comes. blacks run pretty much everything and are very loud about it and real about it. And don't bring up the trayvon martin verdict because there's 100s of more black on white random killings, group beatings, etc. than white on black and most of them get off too.

Florida is a very easy state to get away with crime. there's so many criminals and it seems like the more violent your crime is the more likely you do little time for it. I've heard that Texas is the same if you're rich.

Florida beaches are a lot better than Texas...Galveston is a dump.

florida thugs advertise it. for example most of em got neck tats, lots have face tats, most wear gold, show their guns on facebook and youtube, etc...it's very easy to tell who they are and that's actually a good thing cus it's easier to avoid em.

That's what I like about Florida, it seems more tolerant on drinking in public as long as you don't cause any trouble.
Feels like home in Europe
Please don't mix drinking a beer and drug use ...

Of course you are going to say that, when you live there. Daytona surely is not one of the better beaches in the state by far. Now, just up the road, Fagler Beach, is awesome.

Seriously, the beaches in Texas are far superior to those in S. CA. Mainly for the same things the TX beaches have - OIL REFINERIES and the like. I was shocked and disappointed by the pollution levels in the water here in CA. I have been shocked and disappointed by MANY things since moving to CA unfortunately. I moved with money and it STILL hasn't made it any better. SMH.
I guess I believed all the lies about California.

Oh and to get back on topic about TX & FL - I like them both for different reasons! Although the politics against women in Texas is what will keep me from ever living there again. Shame too becuase I really liked it. Now instead, I am moving back to Florida (Palm Beach Gardens).

As far as housing goes, Texas blows Florida out of the water. It's not even close. You can buy very nice houses in the suburbs of Houston for under $100k in good school districts. Same can be said for all of Texas's metros. I think the average sale price for homes in Texas is $144k while it's $236k in Florida... That's almost a $100k difference..]

I'll give you the house thing, TX does have wonderful houses and very inexpensive also. But I would never live there as a women or a free thinking person. I have lived in San Antonio, El Paso and Flower Mound (outside Dallas) but not Houston thankfully. Very much like El Paso in many areas - too dirty and blue collar for me. Although Houston does have tons of rich oil people and the ammenities that go with it. Unfortunately I happen to think that big corporate oil people suck.

I like Texas, but I would only move there if I had no other choice. The politics of Texas will kill that state.
