What flows through Florida is ours. What flows through Georgia is theirs. We need to mind our own water and pay attention to our own problems.

Too many people. Way, WAY too many people.

Great point there really. So if there was a river (hypothetically speaking of course) that flowed into GA from FL then we could pollute and do whatever we wanted to said water since it flows through our state right. Georgia needs to get over themselves and stop being greedy.

Nice straw man. We're talking about water use or water flow here, not water pollution. It's true that problems of water pollution have been around since medieval times, or earlier, where a village or settlement living downstream of another village or settlement would get up in arms over things like feces and garbage and other contaminants coming from the upstream settlement. These were settled by treaty, usually, although sometimes by violent action between settlements.

In this case, however, Georgia is USING the water, not polluting it. As to your straw man about a river flowing from Florida into Georgia, although that's not likely, what IS possible is that our springs can be pumped out by the likes of Nestle Waters and other corps who want to sell "our" spring water. In fact that's being done right now. I think these corps should get over themselves and stop being greedy.

I don't see our genius Senators getting their boxers in a wad over that situation.

Georgia is not being "greedy". It is thirsty and has a genuine need and it behooves Florida to act like a good neighbor.

Good point. It's not unusual to see sprinklers switch on when it rains in parts of Florida.

But you're down there in South Florida, aren't you, limehouse? South Florida will be drawing on Northern Florida's water resources in the years to come, if it isn't already. I've already seen what happens when Pasco County gets pumped out to service the water needs of Pinellas. I wonder if that could have anything to do with sinkhole problems in Pasco?

At the very least, Georgia needs to implement a huge "anti-Florida" campaign to discourge tourists from visiting that state - let's see how the bleeding fools in Florida like that.

Of course, it's obvious as to who will win that court battle - but it still ticks me off to no end that Florida thinks they can just tell us to not have any drinking water (which is ours to begin with!) just so they can have some g-dammed oysters...gosh, this really grinds my gears...ugh!
Since the St Johns flows north, you'll have a tough time damming it.

Actually no.

Only when there is not a droughts and there is an oversupply of water for the reservoirs.

We have very strict lawn watering laws. On top of this we have new strict sets of sewage usage in suburban areas for new development.

However, water is plentiful in the river systems at the north end of the state.

Most of Florida's problems exist in areas where the rivers can't be adaquetly damed for reservoirs and they have outpaced the rate the ground water recharges.

It has little to nothing to do with the issue Georgia has.

That river system has plenty of water in it for tons of growth, the caveat is Florida wants to guarantee a very high amount of flow out to sea (not for municipal water of either state) during droughts solely to prop up the oyster industry in off/drought years.

The really odd thing about this situation is this is not even the ecologically friendly thing to do for "natural populations" of mussels and oysters.

This will cause populations to lose their genetic adaptations for being drought resistant in the future and repopulating the area in good years.

This policy actually weakens the species in the long-run.

... and for the record... It is our water.

All of the water we use is rain that fell on the North Georgia Mountains.

We don't even use water that fell south of Atlanta. It is only about 10% of the whole river basin we get our water from.

Are you guys still wasting OUR water to prop up a relatively small fishing industry in a single bay?
