For the record

Key West had an excellent pirate museum till Pat Croce moved it up to Saint Augustine in 2011. It was the biggest and best collection of authentic pirate gear I have ever seen. Wish it was still in the Keys!

The Florida legislature made English the official language of the state back in 1988. I am still waiting for the English to become the official language of the USA.

There's no need to declare an "official" language, be Spanish, English, or any other.

Yes, the people should have the freedom to speak or write whatever language they feel like, without having some sort of official language being imposed on them by force.

The official language should be Esperanto.

Maybe not at the state level but counties should be allowed to have any official languages they want according to their population & demographics. Miami Dade county's government prints & advertises all of their media publications in English, Spanish & Haitian Creole including voting ballots.

Also right now Sunrail has been criticized for not having any of it's publications or it's website in Spanish and officials are scrambling now to rectify that before Sunrail gets rolling this year. Having counties adopt Spanish that have almost negligible Hispanics may not be practical so let the counties decide what languages they want to make official to serve their local population.

So when I went to Japan I did not see much in the way of English. Shouldn't they bow down to me being in THEIR country and do like America does and bow down to Spanish only speaking and reading people?

Is English laid out for me if I go to Cuba or Mexico? Like America, we bow down to those who dont speak, write or read English like they should.

It used to be those who wanted to come to America and be a part of the AMERICAN CULTURE wanted to learn English because it is the language we use.

I and other Americans should not have change for others, those who come here need to change to adjust to our ways.

I get so sick of seeing Spanish billboards, McDonalds drive through menu showing Spanish wording etc.

^ Japan is a homogenous closed society hence they have kept their culture & society for eons. By the way we have millions of Spanish speaking tourists as well so it's not just "immigrants" that McDonalds is pandering to. If Spanish bothers you that much maybe you should have researched Florida better before making the leap to move to our state.

Nah, did my research. Only have to deal with the crap for a short period of time. Pandering to those who do not want to become Americans like so many who wanted to learn our language and culture as in the past. I wont let those un Americans stop me from having a blast in my state.

German immigration was our largest wave by far percentage wise. Ohio was at the center of that social and cultural experiment as you know.

German American - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

What makes this latest immigrant group so 'special'? Well at least sanity prevails as 82% say NO.
