Absolutely. When I lived in WNY it was so cold and snowy in the winter plus you had to deal with icy sidewalks. When you get to be a senor a broken hip is the last thing you need. I can walk here everyday, not necessarily at noon in the summer but its always an option vs freezing up north. I walked in Malls up north but you had the issue of wearing boots and a winter coat plus getting all sweated up and going outside to the freezing cold which was not great for your health.

Nope. We never went out in SWFL due to how hot and sticky it always was. My kiddo wanted to come in after 15 mins of playing. Once we left and moved north we go out in all sorts of weather. The summers are more bearable so we do trips to lakes, mountains, the city etc. In the autumn its festivals, pumpkin patches, hikes. In winter we do tons of outdoor things like tubing, snowy hikes, christmas markets etc. We've never been so active in our life since leaving Florida.

Here in SWFL the people seem much heavier. Not trying to sound mean but a lot more heavier people. I'm 39 and the people in my age range up in St. Louis were nowhere near as heavy. More seemed to go to the gym too. Same when I'm in Tampa the younger people seem to take care of themselves more. Around me the women in their 20s and 30s a lot more sloppy and fatter in SWFL.

I don’t think it makes a difference.

Moved to Florida from Wisconsin in ‘95.

We played volleyball outside in the dead of winter in Wisconsin.

People who want to be active will make it happen

Me personally, the heat and sun keep me inside.

I agree with your assessment 100%.

On top of the increase in outdoor recreation there's also the concept of life in general being more walk-oriented versus hiding indoors or driving everywhere, whether going to/from work or even to the grocery store. There are a few exceptions in winter perhaps, but certainly not the eight to nine months seen in FL.
