1. That me or my son will be attacked by a shark or alligator
2. That people are rude (I have heard that a lot)

#1, you should be more concerned about getting a bad sunburn.
As for #2, don't worry about the rude ones. It's the weird ones you gotta watch out for.

You won't be walking in Florida, so that should be your 3rd fear.

Statistically, shark attacks are very rare so I would not worry about that one much.

Alligator attacks are also rare. I saw a few of these guys when I lived in Louisiana but stayed my distance and they seemed content to just either bask in the sun or swim around in the water.

Rude people occur in pretty much any area unfortunately. You are more likely to encounter rude people in a larger city but the best advice is to just ignore it, stay polite/calm, and don't take it personally.

Florida is a pretty large state with many different areas so it's hard to generalize what it is like overall. The panhandle area is different from the Miami area. It's kind of like trying to say that NYC is representative of NY state...

I've been to Florida a few times on business, mostly to the Pensacola and Tallahassee areas. Neither area was especially uptight; the only thing that I recall is Pensacola having a lot of the little tourist trap gift shops with ocean-themed gifts but the people were pretty nice. It was nice to visit but couldn't live there as I am more of a snow bird

Even if you lived in the water a shark or gator attack would be extremely rare. you are more likely to get bitten by a rattler or any number of poisonous spiders. so c'mon down and enjoy endless days relaxing on the beach.

If these are your two main fears then you honestly have nothing to worry about. I understand your a mom so your gonna worry but the chances of getting bit by a shark are so slim its really nothing to worry about. And if he does get bit by a shark he will have a cool scar and awesome story, chicks will love it. Just kiddin, y'all aren't gonna get bit by no shark I promise.
As far as rude people, idk. I've never lived anywhere else. I might run into an azzhole every now and then but I also run into nice people on a regular basis.
Don't forget you've got mom power and that's some powerful stuff, you'll slay a shark

I would be more concerned about ear infections from swimming in the ocean than sharks or alligators.

Shark attacks are more common on the east coast than west coast but still very rare vs the number of people swimming. You need to do the 'stingray shuffle' as opposed to 'stomping' through the water just to avoid stepping on one. Alligators, just watch when walking close to canals, etc. they are moving ball hazards along golf courses and common. Gator attacks on humans are rare.

Shark won't bother ya clark. Lived here since 1963 and have yet to get bit by a shark or a snatchmagator. Our gators are tame compared to Nile crocs brock.
