Insurance agents have to have (using the term very loosely) a sort of "malpractice insurance".

Every office carries Errors and Omission Insurance.

The newbe licensee whether it be for a profession or otherwise has a minimum criteria to meet before they can gain practice and expertise for the license they hold. The minimum standard is just a starting point – Maybe Tallahassee should reexamine a whole lot more than just Real Estate Professionals… as a 16 yr old can certainly do much more harm driving a car than can a realtor practicing the eight Services of Real Estate in Florida. And if doctors were soo perfect they wouldn’t need malpractice ins.

PS BTW I have a license to drive a, pilots license, and a license to sell real estate [among others] and they are all only as good as the efforts I made and continue to make to be good at each one of them

• have at least 10 hours of solo flight
• pass the FAA Private Pilot Airmen Knowledge written test
• pass a FAA Private Pilot flight exam

There is also continuing education requirements. There is also on the job experience. Life experience. That's why you interview or meet with different Realtors® to find out which one fits your needs best. Not much unlike going to a...doctor/accountant/hairdresser/car mechanic, or anyone else you hire to do a job.

The MLS is not state owned so Tallahasee has nothing to do with it. There is no reason to make a tool/data base paid for, maintained and improved by Realtors® free to all or open to all. Make your own database.

Well, there you do have a point: it is always "buyer beware."
You are right, it is up to the individual to decide on whomever he/she chooses to give him service, be that a hairdresser, or doctor.
I guess you guys may be right: 63 hours is all it takes to have license to give bad advice such as "Buy now or be priced out forever" in 2005.

We must be careful how we defined a professional. many members without a degree are considered professionals, or better Subject Matter Expert. The skills and commitment to your job is what derives your professional trait.

If the intent was to lessen the Realtor profession (my impression on some of the comments) is not warrant. We have excellent Realtor and some that are not as good. Normally their actions automatically flush them from the system and governing rules by the state.

To answer Jbravo question: yes more training in any profession is the goal, but like in any profession the individual not the profession is the one that triumphs or fails to the customers or them selfs.

I think the Real Estate course which Realtors are required to take is a joke. They make you memorize so much trivial stuff and then the topics you really need to learn, such as contracts, handling sales and listings, paperwork trail, and all the complicated steps required in a transaction, is virtually ignored.
