Florida Favorite House
With all the talk about housing cost, insurance, interest rate, hurricanes, and fuel cost what is your favorite type of housing?
I like the single home because of the lay-out, don't have to worry about stairs, sits on its own piece of land, not attached to anyone else's residence, Re-sale value is generally the highest on single family detached homes, and you can usually add on to the existing house.

The prices should drop some, but you have a lot of windows to cover during hurricanes. Do the seller provide shutters? How bad is the tax and insurance?

Yes, the reason I am waiting until Fall of 2008 is I am anticipating this home to decrease in value a lot by then.
The law requires that all builders provide hurricane shutters or special glass on all new homes.
That is a good point about all of those windows, I never really considered the dangers of that. Giving me something to think about, thanks.
Tax will again depend on price and location of where we build, we are looking at Wellington.
Insurance, no clue at this point, God only knows what will happen from now until then with that issue.
Until then we are going to rent, we are moving up from Canada in July. We have been out of the country for a total of 8 years. My husband is so anxious to return.

Thank you, my favorite part is the front entrance way.
Man, you guys have me worried about the windows now. The house does come with the shutters though.
Question, with shutters is the risk still great?
We lived in Nassau, Bahamas before we came to Canada and saw two hurricanes. We had a lot of windows and big trees at that place and once the shutters went on we never gave any thought or worry about it. I guess ignorance is bliss?

If things go as planed we will have this builder do a house for us. It is almost hurricane proof with it's 16 inch thick concrete walls. I want a poured concrete roof though.

Wow, that house looks like it is build to last. It is very stately looking, a bit of a different look for the usual Florida homes.
What area are you hoping to build in?

At one point it was just a pipe dream, one of those things you talk about. But at our age and we have no kids what are we going to do. I need a minimum of five acres to build what I want. I already bought property but changed my mind and sold it, it closes this week or next week and I will search for something else. The property I just sold I bought in Grant Florida. It's a nice place but We have our minds set on farther north for a little change in the weather now and then.

Very very cool construction, I think well worth it.
Best of luck to you with this home.
