Ah, I see. Giovanni is just an Italian name, very common all over the USA, especially in areas with a sizable Italian-American population. It's Italian for "John". I can see that it would stand out in a town like Clermont, but maybe you and I just have a different take on the word "weird".

Amelia Island (Nassau County) Besides for the two resorts it is pretty much very "Florida" No big condos, old walking downtown area. Some of the older buildings in Florida are there. FL oldest Hotel, Salon and plenty of old homes and even some Bed and Breakfast places. But if you dont like the beach or golf not much to do after a day of seeing the town.

The Palace Saloon is supposedly the oldest bar in Florida.
But yeah, if you don't fish, beach, or golf, you'll run out of things to do on vacation.
However, if you *live* here, you might have other things going on.

I dunno, he had a long rap sheet in NJ and he moved to Clermont and killed two people. He's a criminal and hopefully he never sees the light of day.

Here is a photo of the US Post Office in Evinston Florida between McIntosh and Micanopy. It is also the local general store for this small scenic crossroads town.

I don't know the school district status, but Chipley a little bit south of Dothan, AL is a very pretty and well-preserved small town.

Chipley is about as nice as it gets if you are looking for that kind of thing. It is from what I have seen "Old south" and that may not really appeal to a lot of people. Crime is almost non existent, highest water rating in the state. Some of the highest air ratings in the state. Low cost of living. It is in a dry county. The opening of a new business brings out much of the town, they always want to know what is going on. I don't think the population has change much in a few decades. That town may be one of Florida best kept secrets for someone looking for "Mayberry". I have planed on retiring there for years but like a lot of people seem to be stuck where I am. Some day though. I haven't really found anyplace better.

looking for a quiet, slow-paced, little crime place to retire. Is north Florida a good place? What about Lake City?
