Where is a good city to live on the eastern coast of Florida where crime is low and where there are few snakes and gators. Also not a really expensive city.

I don't know anywhere in Florida that is exempt from snakes and alligators...sorry.

You can find a home in suburban Jacksonville with a 1 acre lot fairly easily. If you're talking about more acreage than that, you probably have to go outside of Jacksonville. You can try adjacent Clay county or Nassau county.

In NorthEast Florida, the culture quickly changes as you move out from the city center. You may find it a plus or a minus, but it gets very redneck very quickly as you head into the rural areas here. It may be different in other rural parts of Florida, I don't know.

You may like Georgia instead of Florida.

Gators flourish state wide. Acreage does not exist unless you have lots of buying power. As for snakes in the north they are poisonous with fangs like eastern diamond backs and pygmy rattlers. Farther south you have Burmese pythons that can swallow alligators. Alligators are in all lakes and rivers and ponds and in a lot of drainage ditches. Once in awhile one gets nosy and enters someones house. Last year a woman found one in her kitchen. You just never know what to expect. Cotton mouths are plentiful too and are also deadly. If you hike be prepared for black bears and FL panthers that are the same as cougars. And now there are reports of the giant anacondas breeding in the everglades. Be wary of feral hogs as they can hurt you really bad in the wild too. Coyotes are being seen more and more now too. We are well diversified with wildlife on either coast.

I go hiking frequently around here. It's not uncommon to see a gator sunning itself in the trail. As soon as it sees a human, it bolts for the water. I've seen hogs many times also. Again, as soon as they see a human, they run away. Same for snakes. It's extremely uncommon to see a black bear, and almost impossible to see a panther.

As for acreage, there's plenty of places in Central Florida where you can get 5-10 acres for an affordable price. Look in South Brevard and Indian River Counties, as well as some of the rural areas north of Orlando.
