What an odd list! Seafood or tacos? (well maybe in SA) From the list, hamburgers for sure. I don't know where they were invented (I'm sure someone will post a link), but they are sure all-American now. Out of natural foods, I would say CORN (and maybe apples). But the one thing America leads the world in is processed SNACKS, both sweet and salty. Noboby does it better! Well, Europe has mastered chocolate, but thats about it
The other items I associate differently:
Pizza = Italy
Fries = France / Holland
Roast Beef = England
Tacos = Mexico
Seafood = Mediterranean, or any coastal area
Roast turkey = USA (also christmas in the UK), but hamburgers come first
Hot dogs = just a sausage with bread roll, German really
I think that BBQ is one of the quintessentially American foods (i.e. not borrowed from other country's food traditions, like frankfurters, etc.), but I also think that since it holds strongly regional appeal, versus overall appeal, it's not as likely to be recognized as hot dogs and hamburgers, which are more homogenous. BBQ is super big in the "BBQ cities" (like mine), but if you don't live in one of those cities, it's probably not as much in the forefront of your consciousness.
Fried chicken came from Africa I was told at college. Now I agree BBQ is an all American treat. Spare ribs and St. Louis. Pulled pork and Memphis. Brisket and TX. Let's eat.
