I was a plate licker as a kid, though at home now as an adult I am tempted to do it again. I use a spoon or a piece of bread to sop up the juices.

My cat isn't really a plate licker. He's a food thief, but he doesn't lick the plate clean.

I've been doing it since I was a kid. Don't get me wrong, I still use spoons and forks, and in public I have impeccable manners, but I've lived alone for a few years now and why not do whatever I want in the comfort of my own home?

I am a plate licker but usually only at home. My wife usually lets me lick her plate too. Delicious!

Don't wash your plates, and the residue will just keep working its way into the next meal. It takes at least a day for anything to spoil to any hazardous or distasteful extent, so it will always remain fresh.

I think I sense sarcasm?

Ewww. That would freak me out too. You let your dog do that??

LOL, only the dirty ones! Several people here mentioned their pets licking their dishes, how are they washing them afterwards? The dishwasher sanitizes all the dishes at very high temps, they are getting better cleaned than if washed by hand. I don't think it's any worse than putting dirty dishes that people have been licking in the dishwasher, dirty is dirty, and the dishwasher is for cleaning. If a dishwasher wasn't cleaning all those germs, there wouldn't be much point in using one, would there?

Yeah I know but it's still gross to me.

I don't lick my plate. I don't think I ever have. I've seen hubby do it a few times, especially if it involves something with chocolate sauce!

My dog loves to lick dirty plates in the dishwasher. It's the only hint of human food he gets. I actually caught him standing on the open door once trying to get to stuff on the top rack. I don't have a problem with it since I figure it's all sanitized anyway and I always use my sanitize cycle for extra good measure.

How do you say "socially acceptable plate licker"?

Bread or Roll or Biscuit, problem solved.
