I found a post on craigslist about bubble tea and it got me thinking about the wonder CD posters! Anybody try this stuff before? The first time I ever had it was in the early 90's when its popularity made its way to Houston. LOVED IT. Then I went to Taiwan for a summer during college and had "real" bubble tea and now the ones in the States just don't compare but alas, I guess I'll just have to settle!
If anybody's ever had it, do you like it? When DH tried it the first time (he's white) he wasn't impressed but he warmed up to it and probably likes it more than I do now. If you ever get the chance to try it, be adventurous! I've seen them at the Virgin Record Stores, though they are not that good there but bubble tea stores are popping up everwhere. Give it a go!
There are many bubble tea vendors in the Seattle area, and I've had the opportunity to try a variety of flavors, with many different "additions", besides the tapioca pearls. I like egg pudding and coconut jelly. The flavor I liked least was durian (oddly, made my tongue and lips feel a little numb)...my favorite is lavender. A couple of other really good flavors are avocado and mango, but these must be made with fresh fruit, not the powder.
I like the strange looks people give you when you're slurping the tapioca pearls up through the extra-wide straw. The uninitiated seem to think they're raisins or something.
I love drinking that stuff! I miss it here in FL. Everywhere in MD, I knew just where to go. I love chewing the tapioca balls.
When I walked in the mall, people would actually stop me and say, "Hey, there's something in your drink". I was just nod and laugh, and reply, "I know."
That's awesome!! I've never gotten "stares" or odd looks but then again, I usually get them in places where it's "normal" to have a thick straw and black pearl looking things in your drink.

If your into humor, you can always reply "Yes, they are some tasty little bugs" lol
heh
I've had the stuff but didn't think it was all that great, but I am not too adventurous with liquid refreshment.
I know it can be addictive for some people though.
I always thought it had such a great name--Bubble Tea.
It's just sort of cheerful and fun.

Same here! We moved to MA from MD in the spring and I miss my bubble tea :-). Used to go to a place in College Park and my favorites were the honeydew, thai and almond, yum!
OOOOOOOH, I LOVE honeydew bubble tea!!! It's so green and lovely! heehee
MA ... Massachusetts? I can't imagine the Boston area not having it. If you are in the Downtown area, I think there is a Chinatown there (or Chinatown-like) .... there must be at least one bubble tea store!

yep, I must go to Boston and look for it there. We live in Central Mass. sadly - no bubble tea yet! But I will find it some day
Oh and the place we always went to in College Park was called TenRen, I think it is a small chain?
