There was a thread about how much you pay for a bottle of wine and it got me thinking about how much people have spent on a night out for dinner with or without alcoholic drinks. I once spent $400 for dinner for 2 of us on our honeymoon at Gary Dankos which included 4 glasses of champagne, 2 appetizers, a cheese course, 2 entree's and dessert for 2. Normally when we go out it's between $50-$125 for dinner depending on where we dine. But since funds are tight we have not been out to eat in 6 months.

When I was on holiday one time I went to one of the best restaurants in the country, with a famous head chef, and paid $150 for a 10 course 'degustation' menu, without any alcoholic drinks at all.
Myself? About $45 at Samurai Blue in Tampa, Florida. I was part of a group, and we all paid for ourselves. I was the most expensive of the bunch and my bill was scandalous even if only I was responsible for paying it!
Normally I spend about $10 - $25 if I dine out at a sit-down restaurant.
I rarely ever drink, so that's a major cost saver right there. It's difficult to spend over about $30 on food alone here at most restaurants, unless you have "champagne" tastes (lobster, steak, etc.) Thankfully I'm one to prefer more "composition-intensive" dishes like pastas and curries.
We went to the famous Stockyards in Nashville Tennessee and paid $145.00 for two of us for a steak which was tough and not flavorable at all. Everything is ala carte so each side costs. The salad dressing was homemade and tasted good but the salad was so small, it was only about 4 bites and I think it was $11.00 for the salad.
We didn't even have cocktails and our service was so poor that we had one cup of coffee and got no refills. Never again!

The best steak you can get is Kobe wagyu, with dry aged Angus coming a rather distant second.

I went to 7 Angels (the only restaurant in town here) earlier this year with a friend from work and my lunch cost about 7 bucks but I brought it home and there was enough still fro 2 more days.
I spent $100 for a meal for myself two different times at Morton's Steakhouse. Both times were special charity events and all the proceeds were donated to a charity that I supported.
The funny thing is that I am vegetarian, and didn't even eat any of their famous steak. I ate spinach and potato both times.
I really don't like to spend big bucks on meals. Even if I was able to afford expensive meals every night I would rather spend a small amount and donate the extra money to charity.
Two times come to mind: the first was in Washington DC. we were with 2 other couples we used to hang out with all the time. Dinner was not all that pricey but drinks were and the one gal, after having a few too many decided to order after dinner drinks for everyone in the restaurant. It was a Hungarian restaurant so we were drinking a special after dinner drink. We ended up drinking all they had on hand abnd the bill was about $400 for the 6 of us. I know, that doesn't sound high at all, but, this was 30 years ago..of course that didn't include tip...think about what the bill would have been today?
The other meal would be Ruths Chris not too long ago, I think it was 2010. We spent about $150 which included 2 glasses of wine for me and one drink for hubby. The price wasn't as bad as the food itself. That was the third time we had been to Ruth Chris, all three were different locations. I doubt we will ever go to another one.
We have friends who do not think it is dinner unless the bill is at least $400. They order everything, much of which we have no interest in eating, including appetizers. When we bought our home, it was not long before we stopped this excessive dining. I did enjoy my breakfast at Brennan's in NOLA, which was 25 years ago and it cost us about $100.

Holy crap.
120 bucks at a Disneyland dinner for 2 adults, 2 children. 60- 70 bucks for a good sushi dinner and all are full. 15-22 for a McDonald's dinner. 400 dollars to me is extreme. Probably depends on what you can afford. But for a family of 4, I calculate 15- 20 bucks per person, including tip. I figure at least a $60 dollar cost if we go out. 15 bucks a person. Maybe I'm cheap.
