I wouldn't want to use it too much because you can smell the oil for days and I think it ends up coating the walls and ceiling in the kitchen if you use it all the time. But it was fun to play with.
I forgot about the deep fryier. I too, have a little one and it really, even for the two of us is too small. I think it is one appliance I could find a new home for. Sometimes when I just want to do a few pieces of chicken parts or fish and home made fries, I use a large pot and don't bother with the fryer. By the way, you do not need to throw the oil out, but I imagine some people do....

I use a deep fryer for frying because I think it's less splatter to clean up. Even using a splatter screen on a skillet makes a big greasy mess....maybe I'm just a messy cook . I also don't discard the oil every time.

Two appliances that take up space - My kitchenaid stand up mixer and the food processor. I can't get along without them.

It is less messy, but I have found a sause pan is similar..I just hate the fact the deep fryers have to be stored and they get greasy on the outside so they always are just yucky, plus the big ones take up so much room and the small ones do not fry enough at once.

I just use a pot for deep frying. I don't deep fry enough to need a fryer. Also, I tend to throw the oil away for the same reason. If I know I'll be frying again in the same week, I'll strain it and re-use it, but that happens so rarely, it seems better to toss it.

Limited counter space but would have to say our Keurig and the Mr Coffee programmable 10cup insulated coffeemaker (Mr Coffee for the work weekdays). Two items that we would have a hard time going without for more than a couple days. Our microwave is on a rolling kitchen cart in the corner so it is not taking up counter space but it does take up space nevertheless.

My deep fryer is a Tfal which has a lid which you close down while frying so there is no mess. It has a charcoal filter which filters out the smell and allows the steam to be released, without the smell or spatter. It works well, it's just big and holds too much oil. It gets expensive to fill it often and I don't like to reuse the oil very many times. Besides, in this kitchen, the only place I have at is large enough to hold it is in a cabinet over the wall oven. I don't like the idea of hoisting this big thing full of oil up over my head, to put it away. I used to use it a lot for homemade chicken nuggets, fries etc when my kids were young. Now I rarely fry anything at all, and since it's just the 2 of us here now, I never fry enough to warrant using it.

The only thing I have is my toaster and coffee maker and my butcher block w/ knives. I like uncluttered countertops.
