I just bought some for the first time in a long time. They are great. I suppose they could be a meal along with crackers etc.

Ya sure you betcha!

My mom actually used to buy it by the gallon glass jar and I would be found in the cupboard snacking on it, preschool memories.

I've never tried it, but I would, were it to be presented to me.

Love it! I'm from an Eastern European background.
I grew up on pickled herring.

I had it once at a local pizza place when I lived in Wisconsin years ago. I liked it, but haven't seen it since. Maybe I should look for it.

My dad got us hooked on pickled herring as kids. It was a source of pride, being of Scandinavian heritage, that we eat it during the holiday season. I think the herring in sour cream is especially yummy on a cracker. A shot of chilled Aquavit makes it a true scanda-hoovian (as Dad used to say) experience.
