During the summer I complained about the apples, not sweet, and stale as if they had been in a warehouse for a year. They were southern hemisphere apples which should have been at their peak. OK, so now comes fall and winter and good old northern hemisphere apples from the US of A. Same thing, no sweetness. Maybe it's me but everything else tastes as it should.

The Gala apples I've been buying recently taste just fine. What variety did you purchase?

I think it's you, but in general people have gotten too accustomed to the sugar levels in foods these days that make just about every fruit taste less sweet.

One can of soda has like 38g of sugar, that's about 6 packs of sugar.

No. I think they are sitting frozen in a warehouse or something. There is only a short period during the year when they have that fresh picked, crisp taste. I bought some gala and fuji apples before Christmas. They were very sweet, but had a more mushy texture like they've sat around for a while. I cut up an apple last night...not sure what kind, but it didn't have a sweet ripe taste. It tasted like it had been picked too early before being shipped.

Gala, Pink Lady, Fiji, Honeycrisp, jazz, etc. Just about all varieties except Delicious, Macs, or, ugh, Grannies.

Well, Anjou and Bartlett have been good as usual, ditto with red grapes and, earlier, peaches and nectarines. My sodas have been diets since the age of cyclamates back in the 60s.

It's just the apples.

Sorry...we've been having some of the best apples that I can remember recently. ..very flavorful and crisp. We are eating lots more apples because of it.

It might just be you.

The only problem I've been having with apples lately is that they're too damn big. But no problems with taste or texture. You might need to find a new store.

I only like "ugh, Grannies". I like sour apples, not sweet. But if an apple is mushy & not crunchy, that takes away from enjoying it too.

There used to be about a thousand different types of apples but now we only see a few different types in the markets. I'd guess they are selected for how well they ship and store more than how well they taste.
