I can easily find plain Greek yogurt but have much more trouble finding full fat yogurt. Even trader joes quit carrying it, I'm assuming due to lack of demand.
I agree, full fat plain Greek yogurt can be difficult to find. Fat free or 2% is all over the place.
Plain yogurt is difficult to find? I find that hard to believe, especially since so many people are using plain greek yogurt in recipes in place of sour cream and mayo. It's a very common product now. I would suggest taking another look at the dairy case. I'd be willing to bet it's there, you just haven't seen it yet.
I feel like some of the brands the plain looks very similar to the vanilla yogurt, so sometimes it does take an extra second of looking to find the plain. But I've never gone into a store and been unable to find it, even at a place like Target with a limited selection. Every brand has a plain version, so even if one brand is out, another will have it. Fage Total plain is probably the most popular that every store carries. I cannot imagine not being able to find it in Manhattan.
Oh another gripe though--sometimes I go to church suppers and avoid the dessert table and try to fill up on salad, but it seems the trend is towards dumping sugar in the salad dressings! I have made broccoli salad before and there is an entire cup of sugar in the recipe. Trouble is you never know which ones they are until you try them tho I know to avoid broccoli salad lol.

Nurse it as starter for counter top homemade yoghurt.
