If I buy lunch meat I go for the reduced salt versions of the more expensive sorts. The cheaper the price per pound, the worst the product tastes. You can always ask for a taste.
If you are ordering at a restaurant, I think it pays to ask about sandwich ingredients.
I hate sweet stuff on a sandwich. I've taken to reading descriptions carefully and asking questions. If I don't end up liking the sandwich, then I won't order it again.
