I was in the market tonight and they had wagyu beef top sirloin on sale for $8.99 a pound. I've always wanted to try it and that's a pretty good price.

It didn't look like Kobe beef, more like USDA prime grade with nice marbling. Kobe is so heavily marbled it looks like it is half fat. I'm sure it takes a special feeding program to get that kind of marbling.

I put it on the grill, careful to not overcook because sirloin isn't tolerant of overcooking.

It's very nice. Tender with good beefy flavor. After I win the lottery, I will try one of the Wagyu ribeyes. Those really looked good.

We buy the ground for burgers when on sale for under $8/lb., a real treat. You got a real bargain for a Wagyu steak.

If it's $8.99/lb it's fake Wagyu. The legit Wagyu is $50+/lb. Wagyu beef regardless where it comes from requires an extensive amount of time and resource to control the feed and care of the livestock. It's not cheap and if you're paying $8.99/lb that's only a little more than your typical mass produced USDA beef which is around $2-5/lb. Not hard to scrap up fats and create ground beef with it. Show me a real piece of wagyu sirloin or ribeye whole piece for $8.99/lb.

I checked with our market. What they sell is locally grown, but certified purebred Ahaushi beef, the cattle originally imported from Kumamoto Japan and then bred here.

Wagyu is a breed. If you want to buy the beef that has as much fat as beef you have to find the beef from Japan that has been fed specific feed and been massaged and pampered every day of it's life.
