I often see someone drink a hearty bowl of cream soups then pops open a can of Naked juice. I can only imagine what the taste of indigestion or burping the savory flavors of the soup and the fruit juice together.
Do you really think that the human digestive system is impaired by a combination of foods just because that combination happens to be uncommon in your culinary culture?
It's a matter of taste. I don't happen to like fruit juice with a meal, but I can see that such is nothing more than my entirely subjective preferences and nothing more.
Yes, human digestive system can be impaired or confused by combining different foods. When we eat fresh produce, the body releases a certain enzyme to digest veggies. Different enzymes are used to digest different types of foods and having them mix together will cause indigestion and lead to heartburn if one has a slower metabolism than another.
I know it's weird when I see people eat a huge meal full of meats then tries to eat like fresh fruit or smoothie afterwards. Fresh fruits especially with citrus is often to blame for causing diarrhea and not bacteria. The body just doesn't like digesting meats and then citrus fruits.
Anyways, I thought eating foods in certain order or proper combination is common sense. I guess most people don't care since they are young enough or healthy enough to just eat whatever and just let the body deal with it. If you are over weight, that could be a reason. Eating foods a certain order can lead to weight loss as the body can properly digest food without just let it pass without full digestion.
I usually always have a sweet tea or mild fruit punch with my sandwich. It aids in digestion. If I have a hot lunch entree, I'll usually have chocolate milk, coffee, or soda. At home I'll have wine. I learned this from a former coworker. It's really good for you to have a drink that compliments your savory sandwich or entree.

If you think there's no consequence when you eat foods of different acidity won't effect digestion it's as silly as saying there's no climate change. Go ahead, enjoy that fruit smoothie after a large steak and fish dinner.

This. OP WHERE are you often seeing this? I've never seen it before in my life and I'm a fourth generation restaurateur.

I have, and it's fine.
There is NOTHING odd or unhealthy about eating a cream soup with a glass of fruit juice.
Nothing.
At all.
