Hey I am looking to slow cook a nice pork shoulder. It weighs about 5.86 lbs. I am looking to make pulled pork. Chop it up nice just like a bbq place.
Time is not an issue so any suggestion on temps/cooking time would be much appreciated.

Do you have a crock pot? That's how I do mine. I just put about a 1/4 cup of water in and the roast. I season it with fresh ground pepper and sea salt and let it cook on low for about 8 hours. It pretty much falls apart. I chop it up and add it back in the pot with my favorite bbq sauce. It's delicious.

Porketta Roast Recipe : Recipezaar This is a sample to give the idea. Italian Porketta is cooked and "pulled" in its juices.. BTW a regular mixer can be used instead of two forks for shreading. Have fun!

I use a dry rub, then put it in my cast iron dutch oven, and put that in the oven at 250 for about 5 hours. Makes perfect pulled pork. Doesn't need any liquid as there's a lot of fat to drain off.

Thanks for the suggestions thus far. I do not have a crock pot. Just a regular electric oven unfortunately so that is what I will be using.

I use a Crockpot also. I add dry rub, fresh garlic embedded in the meat, sliced onions and 1 cup beef or chicken broth. I let it go 8-10 hrs. Use a fork to pull so you can pull away some fat. Once pulled, I add it back in a pot and add BBQ Sauce.

I'm a fan of cast iron and have plenty of it. I probably would do the same in a dutch oven, slow in the oven.

I have a thread on here, same subject of other things to do with it. I had a lot of pulled pork and made chili with it. You can also do tacos. See my other thread for tips.

And there is still a lot left..Going to use some in stir fry and see how that works...During the week quick and easy is important...should be easy to make with a bag of fresh or frozen veggies...

Excellent. I just wonder how long I would cook a 6 lb shoulder. 2 hours less I suppose? I am not good with cooking times.
