I guess I've heard stories about this but didn't really pay much attention to them - fluke incidents I thought, but this is pretty scary when I think about it actually happening. I have a few pieces (pretty old) of Pyrex but when I think about how I use them it's mostly in the microwave for soups and such. And my 9x13 pan is mainly used to pour cooked fudge into at Christmas, but it's certainly held its share of oven-baked scalloped potatoes over the years. No more!

I had that happen too, years ago. I don't remember the details of what we were cooking, or what temp. But I do know it was Pyrex brand baking dish. Quite disturbing at the time.

No thank you! I only use metal or stoneware.
This exactly.

This has never happened to me, but I've only been using them about four years or so. I will definitely get new baking dishes because I like making casseroles and don't want to worry.

I have only been using them for 45 years and I still have not seen them break ... and I am not giving them up.

At my age I can't see investing much in cookware. I have a nice combination of pyrex, stoneware and metal. they get rotated for different uses.

I use Ball canning jars for drinks and everything else around the kitchen. I never boil them or use them in high stress canning situations.

I have had several jars explode or crack on me in the last few years, under normal light use.

My clear glass Pyrex baking dishes have been used for about 8 years now with no issues.

We all have our favorite, tried and true cookware. I still like the glass loaf pans for breads, and an 8"x8" and a 9"x13", for various uses. They have not let me down. I don't roast meat in glass, I don't broil in glass, and I never put glass to extreme temperatures.

I am glad there is a thread like this because I've always worried about glass baking dishes like Corning/Pyrex exploding in the oven. I've seen videos on youtube that show that actually happening. I've baked in Corning/Pyrex ware a few times and I've never had that happen but always worried about and wondered about it. I would use glass baking ware more often if it wasn't for my worries. It would really be scary, not to mention, dangerous to have glass baking ware explode, even the mess would be insane - also, what if it explodes outside of the oven? Then, glass goes all over the place and may even hurt people and pets.

Whoa! That's crazy! The only thing I have ever heard about exploding dishes, was when my mother kept telling me not to put a Cold Pyrex Dish into the oven until you have set it out for 1/2 hour or it will explode in the oven....???
