How often do you eat a 'heavy' dessert after your dinner? By heavy dessert, I mean a dessert that includes sweets like cake, pie, cookies, ice cream, etc.
Growing up, my mother rarely made a 'heavy' dessert to go along with dinner. Most of the time we just had some fruit if we were still hungry.
Over the years I've noticed how many other families seem to have a 'heavy' dessert after every dinner meal. For me, 'heavy' desserts are reserved for special occasions (still holds with me to this day).
growing up, we only had a dessert on a Sunday and only if someone was coming for dinner. usually Italian pastries. otherwise we really didn't have anything. once in a while we had ice cream a couple of hours after dinner.
now, when we go out to eat, about once a week, we MAY get a dessert--but most times we are too full from the meal to eat anything else.
I have desserts more than I should, less than I would like, and even though I try to keep it that way I don't really need special occasions.
Ice cream is not something I have for dessert, I usually "go out for ice cream" as I would "go out for coffee" at a cafe/ice cream place.
