Their previous generation is also under investigation for sudden acceleration problems too.

You're okay with their design flaws leaving the test grounds? Really, I get this is the real world and the consumers pay to be guinea pigs and have for some time now, but I'm not okay with that.
Who said I'm okay with it?
You mentioned the plant where the vehicle was built as if it were an assembly issue.

Yet another example I'd never buy a car the first year it comes out.

Agreed. Look at the introduction of the Ford Focus. Rush to introduce a new vehicle to the market. Fix the problem as they arise. Maybe after 3-4 years, the vehicle quality is where it should be. It is not so great if you are one of the early buyers.

It's called the MCR, Mid Cycle Refresh. The early issues have typically been worked out, meaningful upgrades are typically made, and the price is usually unchanged or only slightly higher. Typically somewhere around year 3 to 5 on average. The MCR is typically the best automotive value out there.

All the manufacturers are paying for their aggressive pricing wars with suppliers during carmaggedon. And yeah, for just a run about car I'd never buy the first model year. If you're buying a car as a statement of affluence or just want to be trendy, then it may be worth it to put up with the minor, and not so minor, defects present in most models. It's still no guarantee... I bought the last model year after the production run had ended. I still had two pretty serious recalls that came out years after buying the car.
