Not only that...but why buy a sports car when you can buy a Jeep Trackhawk, or a Ford explorer with a 3.5L Twin turbo engine, or any of the other sporty SUV/CUV's out there.
I'm more of a 2-door, RWD, manual trans kind of guy, but I've driven some pretty powerful SUV/CUV's that handle well and think "Boy...I could drive this every day".
Whenever I come across a sporty SUV, it just remind me that they make terrible SUV’s (usually rougher rides, poor mileage, and no off-road or towing ability) and terrible sports cars (would be much faster if they weighed less and had lower CG).
They’re the worst of both worlds.
Yes. And they will. Brand recognition is a powerful thing.
I really like the Mach E and I'm seriously considering one (I also own a Mustang). The Mustang badging is what turns me off though.
It would be like seeing a Traverse with a Corvette logo on it. If GM feels the Corvette has no choice but to becomes a CUV, I'd rather they just retire it and put it out of it's misery.
OK. I understand that for you it's a negative emotional play. For other people it will be the other way around.
I can’t imagine anybody ever said “I would buy a Mustang, but only if it was a 4 door CUV”.
People who want an electric CUV look at specs, tech, and price and that’s about it. They could care less about what logo is on the grill.
I can understand that someone who likes Mustangs but doesn't like the new e-Mustang, wishes it didn't have the same name. But, is this really all that important for such histrionics? In the end, it's just a car, and it's just a name.

No. But enough people will say: "Huh, I really want a Mustang, but I need a usable rear seat and cargo area." This isn't meant to sell 300K units in a year. The volume in which it's meant to sell, will sell. Not just because it's called a Mustang, of course.

Nobody is going to buy this thing just for the logo. But the Mustang logo certainly lends credibility to the specs.
