Looking to purchase a used boat. Anyone had any experience with a purchase from Boater's Paradise on Pine Island Rd?

I've got a great 32' 1988 Trojan sedan bridge on the Chesapeake that I'd be thrilled if someone would take off my hands!

I don't think it matters much who the dealer is....I'd just check out the boat carefully.I've had good luck over the years with 3-4 year old boats with 100 to 300 hours.Lots of folks buy a boat and don't get to use it much.Cehck it out for care and maintainence........

Hark! did someone call my name?

Izzy, ya got Chryzzzzlers or a nice Diesel repower in that. PM me with a little more info. We got contacts in VA......

Sami has a good point. Depending on size, age, or variables thereof your insurance carrier may require a "marine survey" regardless if you are paying cash or not. A professional survey is a good idea either way. They can uncover latent defects, and provide negotiating points.

When you get the survey, the dealer/private seller you purchase from is no longer a concern, as you have a professional, and unbiased inspection and opinion as to the condition of the vessel. Make certain that any offer to purchase that you sign has provision for refusal and full refund of deposit, pending a satisfactory survey.

Make certain YOU hire the surveyor. They work on a fiduciary basis, just like an attorney, or realtor. Their allegiance is beholden to whomever pays them. Always blows my mind how many people say they just bought a boat based on the survey provided by the broker/dealer they purchased it from. Try to be there when the surveyor gets there. Most will not mind taking you along on the inspection and showing you firsthand what they find, and why it is, or isnt important. Good education for future purchases.

For the reasons stated above, I will NOT recommend a surveyor. They're in the yellow pages under "surveyors-marine".

Good luck, and PM me if you have any more specific questions I may be able to answer off the main forum.

YC.......
