Does anyone have an idea on a cheap way to get my 10x10x8 foot storage bin of 'stuff' (mostly already in boxes) out west in September? Pods are really expensive, uhaul trailers only go up to a 6'x12'.

I am driving my car out and gas is already going to be a premium. Anyone know of a trucker/mover/oneway drop off service???

Go to u-ship.com
You can list what you have to ship and to what location. You will get various bids from different private movers and companies. I had two rooms of furniture moved from New Jersey to Bonita Springs for about $750.00. All arrived in excellent shape.

Moving companies are a crap shoot. We moved to California one time from NC and the trucking company lost a lot of our boxes. They only paid us pennies on the dollar and we lost a lot of irreplaceable things like family pictures. I had to threaten a lawsuit to get them to pay anything, they fought us all the way.

I would suggest you ship ONLY things that you don't mind losing. Put valuables and family sentimental items in the trunk of you car and take them with you.

The insurance you buy from some of the U Ship type people is a joke. It only kicks in AFTER your own insurance pays the bulk of the bill. Read the fine print carefully. I know a guy who lost a lot of his stuff and he bought the extra insurance. When it came time to pay him they said they were not liable for anything because he should have had his own insurance on it and he didn't.

We also found that we paid more to move our furniture that what we could have bought a lot of new stuff at the destination for. If you have large, somewhat older stuff, consider selling it and buying new when you get there.
